Late March

What's New These Days

The Deeds' Family was sad to say good-bye to our house guests of these last few weeks. It was great to see Jen and Michelle and we can't thank Neil enough for coming out and helping Michael put in the hardwood floor. Colton got a new tooth (another bottom tooth), but his gums look like they're ready to burst with a few more - poor little guy; that can't feel too good. Spring has definitely sprung in Boise so Colton and I are routinely walking in the park. The other day he had his first experience in the swing at the park. He seemed to enjoy it.
Last Friday Colton got to hang out in the warm sunshine with Grandma Jan. We spread a blanket out in the grass and put some toys around him to play with. The wind was blowing a little which was a new sensation to Colt. According to my mom, the wind was causing his hair to move. He would pat his hair in response and squish up his face. I think he was a little uncertain of what was going on. Maybe it tickled :).
He LOVES to watch Jackson (my parent's lab) fetch the ball. Colton will giggle and giggle, tense up his whole body and squeal with joy as the dog goes chasing after the ball. I think if he could, Colt would run after the ball too.
Speaking of moving Colt is still stationary. When you put him on his tummy or hands and knees, he just rolls over - apparently he has no interest in crawling. He does like to pull himself up if you offer a finger to hold on to, and he'll walk if you hold his fingers (although he really doesn't want you to hold him, he wants to do it on his own, but we all know gravity sucks).
The biggest accomplishment of the last few weeks though has been the mastering of the sippy cup. There is a God and He has given my son the ability to drink from a sippy cup. Freedom will once again be mine! (I'm still nursing and until this accomplishment, Colt refused a bottle. It's been 100% Mommy, 100% of the time.)
He's trying new foods, but is especially fond of Cheerios. He is very deliberate in picking each Cheerio up, passing it from the right hand to the left (I think he might be a lefty) and putting it in his mouth. Minutes of entertainment. I'm making most of Colt's baby food so we're keeping things simple - organic carrots, organic yams and rice cereal, butternut squash, bananas, he even tried some mango. Actually, the other day I was enjoying some apple slices and Colt thought he'd try one too. I thought for sure he'd take one taste and discard it since it was a nice sour Granny Smith, but he just chomped away on it. I wonder what he'd do if I gave him a slice of grapefruit?
Other than that, I don't think there's too much going on. I'll post some updated pictures soon.

Growing Up

Colton has two teeth now. In the last few weeks he's grown up so much so quickly. He's eating solid foods - he LOVES sweet peas, carrots, butternut squash, and sweet potatoes. He also like bananas and vegetable teething biscuits. I think Colton would eat solid foods all day if I let him. He is still nursing and refusing a bottle though. We're still working on sleeping through the night. It isn't as hard as it used to be, but I haven't gotten used to letting him cry.
Colton waves now. It still looks accidental, but he does it too often on que for it to be an accident - he knows what he's doing. About a week ago he clapped his hands, but I haven't seen him do that since. Twice now he's helped me turn pages when reading a book - and he's gentle with the pages (which is incredible).
Everything he touches must be tasted, feet, keys, noses, remote controls, toys, paper, you name it, it's going in his mouth.
I think we're still a few months away from crawling, although he does pull his knees up under him when I put him down for "tummy time". He is able to move around on the floor though. I can't really tell how he moves, but he rarely stays in the same place when I put him down. I think this is "creeping"?
Colton continues to build a wonderful relationship with Michael. I just love watching them interact. It doesn't matter how horrible of a day Colt's had; when Daddy walks in the door it's all smiles. They seem to have a very special bond and it warms my soul to watch them interact. Colton fell asleep on Michael's shoulder for the first time this weekend. Anyone with children can understand what a wonderful feeling that is. Today the boys had an outing to Home Depot- their first together without me.
Before I know it Colton will be running around, getting into things he shouldn't, wreaking havoc, and challenging everything. I'm just thankful that I get to witness his passion and play a role in his development.

December 31, 2008

Sorry about the poor video quality. I need to turn the lights up when I make these. Sometimes I don't know who is having more fun playing - me or Colton. In this video I'm playing with Colton's bath toys that he got for Christmas. I'm throwing a small rubber ball against the ceiling and (mostly) catching it in the toy scoop. Colton thought it was hilarious.

We had a pretty quiet New Year's Eve. We tried to go dinner with my folks but we couldn't get a table for 4+ so we just had drinks before we went to a friend's house. Michael and I watched the ball drop at midnight and promptly went to bed. See what happens when you have kid :) . . .

He's just so cute!

Colton's cousin Ke'akua is pretty cute. (Yes, his eyes are still blue.)

Just another day at the "office".

Colton loves to give kisses. Just the other day he was kissing (mouth open slobbery mess) his grandma and grandpa. He really enjoys sucking on my chin too, which is weird. I'm working on curbing that. We're also working on getting Colt to sleep through the night - we're on night 15 - so far it's Colt 12 (1 to 2 45min. sessions of bawling), Michael & Karleigh 2 (sleeping through the night with minimal whimpering- from us and the baby). He has a really strong will. I can't wait for him to be a teenager :p.

Christmas at the Douglasses'

We went to my parents' house in the afternoon to open presents and have Christmas dinner. Colton and Ke'akua got Trunkies - children's luggage with wheels that they can ride, pull or carry; Colt's looks like a cow (complete with udders), Ke'akua's looks like a little green monster - very cute! Michael got a dolly (for transporting heavy items not to cuddle with :)) and a sawzall. I got cookbooks and an imersion blender. We had a wonderful dinner and a delightful time with the family.

My dad built an extension for the table to accommodate our growing family.

Ainoa and the boys - Ke'akua is 3 mo. Colton is almost 8 mo.
